Higher education in Sweden

Swedish

The Swedish Higher Education Authority has now published its yearly report on Swedish higher education in English. The Swedish version was published a month ago.

The report Higher education in Sweden 2013 status report is a first one from the Authority being published in English. The report gives a description of the current situation in the higher education sector.

First there are som statistics about the Swedish higher education in an international perspective and also it provides a basic description of Swedish higher education structure and the regulatory framework. In the report you can read about the developments within the sector and for example that the median age for students starting their studies is higher in Sweden than internationally due to the social differences and differences in the educational system.

Universities are also getting more and more research oriented and the division between research and education has changed: research funding has increased while funding for education has decreased. There are also fewer students entering higher education than before. However, the number of PhD students starting their research education increases.
